Widmer Bros. Oktoberfest

Get ready for Munich-style ales and German bratwursts as one of Portland’s most-loved Oktoberfest celebrations will take place Saturday, September 11 from 3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., at Widmer Brothers Brewing Co.

Widmer Brother’s Oktoberfest is a tribute to the world-renowned celebration in Munich, Germany, which draws more than six million people annually during the 16-day festival. Widmer Brother’s version, although smaller in scale, is large in Oktoberfest spirit. The festival features a variety of craft beers, traditional German food, accordion players, and live music throughout the day. Each year, thousands of Oregonian’s attend the festival; this year’s celebration is expected to draw more than 5,000 craft beer fanatics.

See Prehistoric Predators at the Oregon Zoo, sponsored by Wells Fargo!

Immerse yourself in the wonders of the prehistoric world at the Oregon Zoo! You might think today's predators are pretty fierce but just wait until you see those from the past. From the massive giganotosaurus to the cunning troodon, dinosaur predators were skilled at finding their prey and surviving in a hostile world.

Follow along the rain-forest trail and encounter life-size animatronic dinosaurs representing 17 species from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods! You'll see both gentle plant-eating giants and our frightening predators. Don't worry. These guys aren't hungry. The prehistoric trail-guides will be here to tell you some interesting facts about each dinosaur.

Walking the trail is not the only way to experience these predators. Kids can learn about the different dinosaurs at our discovery stations. Prehistoric Predators runs through September 6th.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest

The BE the difference campaign is a 100 day (June 17 - September 25) initiative that aims to bring 500 new friendships to children in the Portland and Vancouver metropolitan area. Now Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest needs your help in finding Big Brothers and Big Sisters who can make a difference in the lives of our local children.

In our own lives, each of us was touched by someone other than our parents, someone who broadened our horizons and made a difference. By becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple, you can do the same for a child. You will both be forever changed by the experience. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister means being you, developing a friendship and sharing the best part of yourself. It means a chance to see the world -and be seen through fresh new eyes. No matter where you are in life right now, being a Big Brother or Big Sister is something you’ll look forward to. It will be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. For more information about Big Brothers Big Sisters, contact Heath Berg at (503) 249-4859.

That’s why Sleep Country is collecting new clothes for local foster kids, but they need your help! Foster kids come in all shapes and sizes, from infants to teenagers, so sizes big and small are needed.
