First Friday

The Beaverton Downtown Association established First Friday several years ago to promote the preservation, history, culture, architecture and public use of Beaverton’s traditional downtown area. The July 3rd First Friday is honoring one of the most well known merchants in downtown, Beaverton Bakery celebrating its 90th Anniversary. That’s how long Beaverton Bakery has been in business at the current location of 12375 SW Broadway in downtown Beaverton. Quite an achievement and certainly something to celebrate! And celebrate is exactly what Carrie Ann Schubert intends to do. Carrie Ann, owner of Beaverton Bakery, will partner with the Beaverton Downtown Association to throw an anniversary party in front of her historic building during First Friday on July 3. Broadway will be closed between East Street and Hall from 4 to 8 p.m. to accommodate outdoor seating, old fashioned carnival games, and lively music performed by the Crothers & Others Band. Enjoy complimentary strawberry shortcake from the Beaverton Bakery and work off the calories with a little dancing in the street. This type of down home, old fashioned celebration won’t be complete without a Cookie and Pie Bake off. Get out the rolling pin and the cookie sheets, put on an apron, and whip up a batch of your favorite cookies or your family’s favorite pie recipe and enter the contest for Best Cookie and Best Pie recipes. Carrie Ann will be the judge and the winning recipes might make their way into the bakery’s vault of solid gold favorites. Won’t it be grand to win a spot in one of the glass display cases next to the chocolate éclairs, frosted macaroons, or apple dumplings? Pick up an entry form at the bakery and play an active role in Beaverton Bakery’s 90th Anniversary Celebration!

Bring your gift of new pants, tops, dresses and more to any Sleep Country location. Visit SleepCountryFosterKids.org for more information or to donate online.
